Why would I hire an Assisting Hands Home Care caregiver versus a private caregiver for my family?

If you hire privately, you become the employer of the caregiver. The following are just a few things you must consider when hiring privately.

  • Once you hire a caregiver privately, you are responsible for all state and federal payroll taxes.
  • How will you pay for any claims of disability if they are filed against you? You must obtain Worker’s Compensation Insurance or make sure your private caregiver comes with insurance. If not, you could be responsible for any injuries claimed to have happened while working at your home.
  • What happens if the private person doesn’t show up for work? Are you prepared to stay home and take care of your loved one?
  • If the care is for you, are you prepared to be left alone without care if the caregiver does not show up?
  • Are you capable of running a comprehensive, national criminal background check?
  • Is the private caregiver bonded against theft?
  • Who will supervise them?
  • These are only some of the challenges of hiring privately. With Assisting Hands Home Care, you do not worry about these issues.

How are your caregivers screened?

We begin with an initial phone interview and an in-person interview and training.

Those who pass these initial screenings are required to provide at least two professional/personal references, as well as go through the following background screenings:

  • Criminal history.
  • Motor Vehicle Record.
  • SSN Address Trace.
  • Professional License Check.
  • Drug screenings are mandatory.
  • What kind of training do your caregivers receive?

Upon hire, all care staff participates in a mandatory three-hour orientation. Ongoing training includes:

  • Monthly in-services. Monthly in-services cover topics such as diagnosis-specific training, confidentiality, and more.
  • Quarterly in-services. Quarterly in-services are centered on providing disease-specific training and information.
  • Mandatory annual in-services. Annual in-services provide in-depth information on blood-borne pathogens, HIPAA, and other industry and care-specific subjects selected based on feedback from clients, caregivers, and payer sources.

What makes Assisted Hands Michigan different from other in-home care companies?

  • We carefully and thoughtfully match caregivers with our clients.
  • If a client ever feels that a particular caregiver is not a good match, we listen and work to make a better-suited match based on the client’s feedback.
  • When appropriate, we strive to keep the same caregivers in the home to ensure continuity of care and client comfort.
  • We’ve also developed several diagnosis-specific programs to help reduce hospitalizations and readmissions.

What are the advantages of home care?

  • Home care allows individuals to remain in the comfort of the place they call home.
  • Home care also assures families, case managers, and physicians that older adults are safe and receiving the necessary care to remain independent and helps reduce hospitalizations and readmissions.

Assisting Hands was an absolute lifesaver when it came to needing care for my mom. I look for 3 things in caregivers for mom: Compassion, Professionalism, Reliability. Assisting Hands was outstanding in all 3. The caregivers assigned … More really got to know my mom and cared for her like a family member. I have worked for assisting hands for a few months now and I can't speak. One bad word about them. They care about you and. They care about your family. They care about their clients. They're on time. Very professional In my experience … More since I've been working since 16, I'm now 42, this is the very first job that I have worked that I actually love. I don't consider them as clients I consider them as my family assisting hands is very patient and I would recommend this company to go in and take care of your loved ones assisting hands matches the caregivers with the client and that's a good thing and in my short period of time working for assisting hands. I have no complaints and I definitely don't plan on going anywhere else to work so once again, if you're looking for the best quality care for your loved one or loved one's, assisting hands is the best company to choose. You will not be disappointed with the services they have to offer along with the best care givers around.♥️💙

After working for Assisting Hands for 3 months, I can tell it’s an agency I’m extremely proud to represent. I have been a caregiver for 4 years and it’s very rare to find someplace that cares so much for the clients we serve AND the staff. … More Health and safety is the top priority, for everyone, and that’s demonstrated through the agency’s action time and time again. The office staff are extremely responsive and helpful. Hours are extremely flexible, as a student I can work as much or as little as I want. And they do an excellent job of matching caregivers to clients that are local and will get along. Lots of incentive bonuses to pickup last minute shifts and ensure the clients have coverage.

From day one….the hiring process….scheduling….human resource staff….communication….and above all….the clients that we serve. To be in service to attend to one’s … More needs in whatever capacity to show compassion to show kindness to show respect….all beautiful attributes that we as caregivers have tucked in our hearts to share with others.

I have worked with many home care companies for my Mom & this one is by far the best for many reasons & the 1st one where I can actually not worry about the care she is getting from the caregivers to the schedulers to the coordinators … More to the owner! They all talk to me whenever I need them, work great together & do exactly what they say they'll do.
  • Avatar Andy Coden ★★★★★ 2 years ago
This company is well managed. When my mom needed temporary home care services on short notice, they were ready. They visited my mom at her rehab center, went to her home to make sure they understood my mom's needs and home environment, … More and then provided the caregivers my mom needed. All the caregivers were friendly and helpful.
  • Avatar Kendra Burns ★★★★★ 2 years ago

I was the sole caregiver for my mother the last two months of her life. I could NOT have done this without the loving help of Assisting Hands. This team of nurturers gave me peace, comfort and support through the wonderful care each of … More them provided. They allowed me to continue working and gave me much needed breaks from the physical and emotional exhaustion caring for a loved one in hospice takes. They were flexible and accommodating in our ever changing needs, sometimes in a moment’s notice! Everyone did their very best to help me in ever way possible. Brenda is amazing, compassionate and dedicated. Even the owner, Ben is wonderful and sincerely caring. They made the most painful and difficult situation bearable through their love and care. I will miss all of these wonderful people that have been so instrumental in carrying out my promise to my mother. I will forever be grateful for each of them. I would recommend this company without any hesitation.

So I am one of the employees and have seen all sides of this business. I have had family members need care as well as provided care to other families. Out of every company I have worked for this is one that cares the most. In this business … More it is hard to be proud of a company you work for, and the support from not only Ben but the main office makes this the best care company I have ever worked for. For the first time in my career at Abbey Park Senior Living I am proud for the company I work for directly. If you want to work for a company that not only cares for the clients but the employees I would recommend Assiting Hands in a heart beat. We are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. I am grateful to work here everyday and I am grateful in a company taking pride in the care they do. I want to thank them for giving me a place to not only grow professionally but personally as well. Thank you for everything and I look forward to many years of growth with this company.
